Guidelines for accessible days out in the 1.5 m society
Together with experts, entrepreneurs, advocates and experts from various disciplines, we have written an addition to the 1.5 meter protocol of the Club van Elf and the Dutch Association of Zoos. The dome of the 23 largest Dutch day attractions has made this protocol because of the new 1.5 meter society. The protocol did not yet pay enough attention to guests with a physical, cognitive or sensory disability while they needed a tailor-made approach.
Leisure is important for an inclusive society
Day attractions now know what to look for in order to receive these visitors hospitably and safely. For example, it is important that there is good information about accessibility on the website of a day attraction for guests with disabilities. The height of disinfection points and securing one-way traffic are also essential for guests in a wheelchair. A day out is more than relaxing and enjoying. It is also discovering, learning, meeting, seeing and being seen. Also towards the self-evident nature of an inclusive society.
Community "Accessible Day Out"
It is unique that leisure entrepreneurs, experts and advocates have joined forces. Until now, initiatives for accessible days out have been addressed individually by organisations. The collaboration provides new perspectives for all participating organisations. In addition to that of the guest, attention is also paid, for example, to the commercial interest of the entrepreneur and the social interest. Together with guests with disabilities, the community evaluates how the 1.5 meter protocol works in practice. The community will support day attractions from all available knowledge and possibilities in making their day attractions widely accessible. With the aim that 50% of all leisure companies meet the basic conditions of accessibility by 2030.
