CELTH supports three social research projects around World Leisure Congress 2025

CELTH is investing 50,000 euros in three socially relevant research projects to be presented at the World Leisure Congress 2025 in Breda. They have been chosen from a total of eight submitted project proposals.

The jury has great appreciation for all the submitted proposals, which show a great social commitment of the researchers to current leisure issues.

The World Leisure Congress annually brings together leisure professionals from the academic community, industry and government from around the world. The overarching theme of this edition is “Leisure for a better society. This theme refers to the central position leisure occupies in people's lives. In 2025, the scientific congress will take place in Breda. CELTH helps shape the Industry Day where the leisure sector and science can meet.

A total of eight project proposals have been submitted, three of which will receive funding from CELTH:

  • FlexEd: Flexibility in the education calendar for better vacation impacts in society.
The researchers want to find out if and how the rigid educational calendar with fixed vacation periods affects the leisure experience and well-being of families with children. To this end, parents with children in regular education are compared a parents with children who can make use of a flexible schedule of vacation time.
  • Development of a measurement tool for studying inclusiveness of experiences.
Within this project, a set of inclusive measurement tools will be developed to measure the experience of visitor attractions for both people with and without hearing impairments. This should lead to concrete recommendations for leisure providers so that they can make their offerings more inclusive for all.
  • Healthy Placemaking for a Better Society.
This project focuses on promoting healthy places that can contribute to greater physical, mental, ecological and social health. Very concretely, it involves operationalizing healthy placemaking interventions around leisure, tourism and hospitality in Hart van Zuid and the surrounding neighborhoods in Rotterdam.

These three projects will be implemented over the next 18 months and presented at the World Leisure Congress in August 2025.
