Data and cooperation in tourism in times of corona
In one fell swoop, the corona virus stripped popular tourism sites from its visitors. Instead of too many visitors, destinations have little to no visitors. Spreading, on the other hand, is still necessary to minimise the risk of contamination and to gradually reopen the leisure, tourism and hospitality sector.
Lack of data in leisure, tourism and hospitality
It once again raises our concerns, which was already mentioned in Perspective 2030: the lack of data. The desired data is comparable to the data themes identified by the National Data Alliance:
- Insight into the size of visitors
- Profile
- Behavior
- Offer
Collaboration to interpret data
Data must be interpreted before it leads to useful information. The interpretation of this information requires close cooperation between the various parties associated with the tourism sector. Destinations where governments, sector, DMOs and knowledge institutes work closely together, are able to feed the security region and other governments with relevant information and jointly take next steps. In destinations where this type of cooperation is lacking, things remain silent and the sector is left to the decisions of third parties.
Cooperation is intensive and demands a lot from all parties
Cooperation is not always formalised and structured, but is based on years of cooperation, mutual trust and respect. From this collaboration, various parties take on their role in tasks such as conducting investigations, communicating to visitors and residents, consulting and representing entrepreneurs.
We facilitate collaboration around data development, so that you can develop and use data effectively.
